Wins were hard to come by in the South East Wales Cricket League over the weekend, as many Caerphilly-based sides struggled for points.

There was success for Newbridge in division two however, with the side bouncing back with a win on the road against Newport Fugitives.

The hosts won the toss and opted to bat first. Newport could only manage a pretty poor 132, all out after 30 overs.

Newbridge made light work of the chase, winning by five wickets inside 29 overs. That win puts them fifth and right behind those at the top.

But it was another tough week for winless Blackwood however, who are really struggling this season after eight games.

Away to second placed Cardiff seconds, the hosts batted first and set a very healthy total of 243 for Blackwood to chase.

Some good bowling from Cardiff saw the visitors all out for 188, keeping Blackwood anchored to the bottom of the table.

A division below, Machen were also on the road against a very strong Pontypridd side.

Batting first, Machen set a decent total of 204 for the hosts to chase. Pontypridd made the chase look remarkably simple, eventually winning by nine wickets.

Crumlin were also in action, away to a decent Llandaff seconds. The hosts opened the batting this time, and set a total of 216 for Crumlin to chase.

The visitors fell well short, all out after 37 overs for 145. That loss has them on the same points total as Machen in seventh.

In division four, Pontymister and Crosskeys were hoping for back-to-back wins as they took on Chepstow at home.

The visitors batted first, and set a solid target of 193 for Pontymister to have a go at.

The hosts batted well, eventually winning by four wickets after 39 overs. That momentum building win takes them up to fifth, just a point behind third.

Finally in division ten, it was a tough outing for Cefn Fforest and Maesycwmmer, this weekend at home to Friends Union.

Cefn Fforest batted first and could only manage a very underwhelming 76, all out after just 25 overs.

The visitors made lightwork of the chase, winning by ten wickets after only 12 overs.

Cefn Fforest sit one place from bottom with one win to their name.
