Blackwood Little Theatre is currently rehearsing its production of The Ladykillers, which it will be performing this weekend.

The Ladykillers is a 2011 stage adaptation, written by Father Ted creator Graham Linehan, based on the 1955 comedy film of the same name.

The play premiered at the Liverpool Playhouse in 2011, but is now being brought to life once again in Blackwood.

The production is described as a classic black comedy where a sweet little old lady, alone in her house, is pitted against a gang of criminal misfits.

Blackwood Little Theatre’s production will be showcased on Friday June 28 and Saturday June 29.

It has been directed by James Amos, who has worked as a director and actor professionally.

James said he fell in love with the play and was inspired to pitch the show to Blackwood Little Theatre.

The cast of this production include Claire Rooke and Huw Thomas as main characters Mrs Wilberforce and Professor Marcus. From auditions, James said he was amazed at the talent in Blackwood.

He said: “The cast we have is fantastic. They bring the comedy to life.”

James explained how, as a director, he has worked closely with the cast to prepare for a “top notch show” – with help directing from Kevin McCurdy to work with the cast on intense scenes.

James said: “I’m proud – it’s the best thing I’ve worked on and it’s been a joy.

“It’s such a fantastic play, the cast has worked so hard and there’s a great spread of talent amongst them”.
