Pupils praised for ‘excellent’ behaviour as schools receive glowing Estyn reports

Two Caerphilly County Borough primary schools are celebrating glowing inspection reports.

Caerphilly’s Cwrt Rawlin Primary School, and Ystrad Mynach’s Ysgol Gymraeg Bro Allta, have been praised following visits from schools inspectorate Estyn.

Cwrt Rawlin was praised for its inclusive ethos and for the quality of its teachers and teaching assistants.

In its report, Estyn said: “Nearly all pupils are polite and well-mannered, and their interaction with each other and all adults is exemplary.

“They greet visitors with a warm smile and a friendly greeting, which makes visitors immediately feel a part of the wider school community.

“Pupils’ attitudes to learning and their behaviour are excellent. Nearly all engage immediately at the beginning of each lesson and show perseverance and resilience in what they achieve.”

Headteacher Tara Lloyd said: “We are delighted that Estyn has recognised the very good practice in the school and the hard work and collaboration of the whole school community.”

Meanwhile, Ysgol Bro Allta received glowing feedback for its “highly inclusive, homely and caring environment” and “excellent” pupil behaviour.

Inspectors who visited Ysgol Gymraeg Bro Allta noted pupils “feel happy and safe, within a highly inclusive, homely, and caring environment”.

The inspectors also praised pupils’ behaviour, as well as the school’s headteacher.

Estyn’s report said: “Nearly all pupils are extremely proud of their school and that they belong to the Bro Allta family.

“Nearly all pupils behave excellently at school and make sound progress from their starting points in all aspects of their work. They are extremely polite and respectful towards each other, staff and visitors.

“Their understanding of their community responsibilities is one of the main characteristics of the school. They appreciate the fact that all are given extensive opportunities to undertake leadership roles on various committees over time.”

Meinir Elenid Jones, headteacher at Bro Allta, said: “We are extremely proud that Estyn has recognised the exceptional standard at the school and the progress the pupils are making.

“Together we have created an excellent learning environment which enables our pupils to thrive academically and socially. I am so proud of our whole school community.”

Keri Cole, chief education officer at Caerphilly County Borough Council, said: “The positive reports are testament to the efforts of staff, pupils and governors at both schools.”
