In a South Monmouthshire League match-up, Pontymister Athletic suffered a narrow defeat to rivals Crosskeys on the road.

Fielding a strong side, Crosskeys raced into an early lead across all rinks and found themselves 14 shots up after six ends.

To their credit however, the Mister Men pegged their hosts back and reduced that lead to nine towards the end of the game.

Crosskeys held-on however, eventually running-out 60-54 winners and claiming all ten points.

Report

On rink two, the experienceD four of John Sheldon, Jamie Roberts, Captain Chris Beale and Jack Collier took on the formidable Darren Hobbs, Ray Faulkner, Barrie Davies and Paul Watkins.

The game started with the Keys dominating the early ends and racing into a lead, but the Mister Men clicked and won the next ten ends in a row to record a fine but unexpected win, 18-10.

Rink three brough together 15-year-old Ethan Symmonds, Richie Jones, Ian Collier and Graham Smith to take on the accurate Chris Perry, Dave Hollister, Keith Edwards and Keiran Davies.

Pontymister kept the game close in the first-half of the game but eventually the keys pulled away and recorded a win by nine shots.

Rink four saw Spanner return to his former club alongside Frank Trepleton, Dai Bowd and skip Richie Murphy. They faced Brian Duggan, C.Murphy, Dave Greaney and Tony Brown.

Pontymister managed the game well and secured the rink on the last end to win by three.

Finally on rink five, Simon Webb, Ian Holder, Ken Mckinnon and Roger Simms challenged Allan Williams, Rob Thomas and the talented pair of Danny Davies and Ryan Boots.

Crosskeys dominated from the off and wrapped-up a comprehensive 12 point win to secure an overall victory.
