In a true grudge match, local rivals Pontymister Athletic Bowls Club welcomed Pontymister Welfare to Fields Road in a South Monmouthshire league match.

The “highly anticipated clash” between the two was held on Wednesday July 24, with players on both sides having played for each other.

Athletic started the stronger side and maintained that lead throughout, eventually running-out very comfortable 30 shot winners, and winning by a final score of 91-57.

Rink two saw an experimental four of Dai Bowd, Richie Jones, Ethan Symmonds and Richie Murphy take on a relatively experienced four from the Welfare.

Playing with enthusiasm and skill, Athletic completely dominated the game and recorded a 37-4 win.

On rink three, Spanner, Sean Kenvyn, Ken Mckinnon and Chris Beale managed a narrow win after a few good bowls in the final ends.

Rink four saw another close encounter with Simon Webb, John Sheldon, Mike Lyons and Graham Smith representing the home team, however it was the away team who took the spoils with a hard fought victory.

Rink five saw a mix of youth, inexperience and old-timers come together in the form of Jason Bradshaw, Jamie Roberts, Phil Huntley and Jack Collier.

In a very close game, the Mister Men four proved too strong for their opponents and recorded a fine win.
