There were mixed results for sides across the borough

After a weekend off due to bad weather, clubs across Caerphilly County Borough were hoping to return to winning ways in the South East Wales Cricket League.

In division two, Newbridge had suffered from a break and struggled to get anything going at home to Rogerstone Welfare.

The visitors batted first and set a very nice total of 253 runs for Newbridge to chase. The hosts could manage just 119 runs; all out inside 30 overs.

Elsewhere, Blackwood picked-up only their second win of the season, on the road to a five-win Vale side.

Vale too opened the batting, and set a manageable run total of 206 for Blackwood to hunt down. They did so quite comfortably in the end, winning by six wickets to lift themselves from bottom.

In division three, there was an all Caerphilly-clash between Crumlin and Machen, with hosts Crumlin batting first.

They set a decent total of 201 for Machen to chase, who didn’t really get close in the end, all out for 127. Crumlin sit one place behind Machen in seventh.

One division below, Pontymister and Crosskeys faced a tough away game against fourth-placed Sully Centurions.

Pontymister batted first and set a rather dismal total of 99, all out after 38 overs. the Centurions managed the chase with ease, losing just two wickets.

There was better news down in division seven, with Abercarn claiming their fourth win of the season against a struggling Undy and Magor side.

Visitors Undy batted first and set a poor total of 113 for the hosts to catch. They did so in quick time, dropping just one wicket in 12 overs to move into eighth.

Finally, in division ten, Cefn Fforest and Maesycwmmer faced a very tough test up against top of the league Newport.

Batting first, Cefn Fforest managed to get to 148 runs inside 40 overs. The hosts made the chase look easy however, losing just three wickets in 18 overs.

Cefn Fforest and Maesycwmmer sit ninth on two wins.
