Pollution spotted in Nant Cylla brook, near Cefn Hengoed, has now cleared according to environmental agency Natural Resources Wales.
A Caerphilly Observer reader saw the discolouration from the Penybryn/Gelligaer tributary into the main Cylla brook on Tuesday July 30, and took pictures of it at Penrhiwfelin Farm woodland.
The pollution was then reported to NRW with concern it may affect the trout fishery in Ystrad Mynach.
Responding to a query from Caerphilly Observer, Kate Rodgers, environment team leader for NRW said: “We recently received a report of discolouration impacting the Nant Cylla Brook, near Cefn Hengoed.
“We can confirm that pollution has now cleared in the area, and there were no signs of any dead fish or fish in distress.
“Thank you to everyone who took the time to report this to us. If anyone sees any further signs of pollution, please report it to our incident hotline on 0300 065 3000 or using our online incident form”
In March 2022, we reported another instance of pollution in the brook with NRW at the time launching an investigation.
Asked for an update on that incident, an NRW spokesperson said: “Our officers are continuing to work closely with our partners as part of the ongoing investigation process, and any appropriate enforcement action will be carried out as necessary. As with any investigation, no case details can be disclosed as this could impede any outcome.”
