Members of a Caerphilly allotments finally have their solar panels up and running thanks to a Cardiff-based business who carried-out the work for free.

The Van Ward allotments in Castle Park, Caerphilly, had the solar panels on their base installed in October last year to power their ‘totally green’ wellbeing room, which would double-up as a warm hub.

However, it wasn’t long before chair of the allotments, Tracey Davies, realised they didn’t work, and instead had to rely on a generator for electricity and water.

After almost a year of trying to get the panels fixed, solar energy firm Nuvolt installed a whole new system free of charge.

After the work was completed, Tracey said: “Without electricity we don’t have water, without water our crops would fail. Without electricity we are unable to effectively use our wellbeing room. Nuvolt has saved our projects this year.

“We now have unlimited access to our water and free electricity that is allowing us to access the Hive and all of its facilities, such as the fridge, microwave and kettle.

“I’d like to thank Nuvolt for all their incredible work and knowledge that’s allowed us to become a greener and more sustainable community.”

Gareth Moss, co-founder and director at Nuvolt and a resident of Caerphilly, shared his thoughts on the project: “We are delighted to support the Caerphilly Allotments. As a local resident, I see first-hand the positive impact this space has on our community.

“By ensuring the off-grid system is fully operational, we hope to enhance the allotments’ role as a vital community hub and promote sustainable living practices.”
