A round-up of all of the football in Caerphilly last night

It was a jampacked round of midweek fixtures for Caerphilly-based sides, as the 2024/25 season gets underway.

Starting in the Cymru South, the second tier of Welsh football, Trethomas Bluebirds made it two wins from two and now sit in first place on goal difference.

They beat a newly promoted Penrhiwceiber Rangers side 3-0 in Ystrad Mynach on Tuesday night thanks to goals from Ethan Edwards and a brace from Gareth Tedstone.

Perfect: Trethomas Bluebirds make it four from four with victory over Penrhiwceiber Rangers

A division below in the Ardal South East and it was a great night for the four Caerphilly sides, starting with Risca United who played away to Croesyceiliog.

After taking a 4-0 lead through a Lloyd Oliver hattrick and Cole Greenhaf finish, it looked to be plain sailing for the Cuckoos.

It turned out to be anything but with the hosts scoring three late goals to make it a nervy last couple of minutes. Risca held-on though, and move-up into ninth with that win.

Abercarn have had a good start to the season but faced a tough test away to former Cymru South outfit Abergavenny Town.

The visitors started strong however, and scored the opener through Alex Adams. They were pegged back with a few minutes to go through Dylan Owen-Davies, but a point on the road is still a brilliant result.

Finally in the division, Treowen Stars matched-up against newly promoted side Newport Corinthians.

The Stars made lightwork of their opposition, running-out comfortable 3-0 winners thanks to a Corey Jenkins brace and a Christopher Hartland third.

Down in the North Gwent Football League and there was more good news for fellow borough sides, starting with Argoed Reform Club who had already won their opener 10-1.

They faced Fields Park Athletic on Tuesday night and made the job look equally easy, claiming all three points in a 6-0 win.

Jordan Price secured his second hattrick in as many games while Liam Bennington, Macauley Price, and Jak Sillett grabbed the rest. Argoed now sit top of the division.

Blackwood Town hosted Waunlwyd in what was their first game of the season, and recorded a come-from-behind 2-1 victory.

Trailing early on to the Ebbw Vale-based side, goals from Keian Jenkins-Duffy and Dylan Hulbert turned the game around and won them the points.

Elsewhere, Fleur De Lys were involved in an eight-goal thriller on the road against Garnlydan FC.

It was a back and forth contest the whole match, with goals coming all over the team through Thomas Calver, Brooklyn Peckham-Stark, Corrie Bird, and Kyle Thompson.

Their opposition were equal to them though, and the game ended 4-4.

Maesycwmmer played in an equally exciting game at home to Blackwood-based side Twyn y Ffald Blues.

It was 2-3 at the break with an Alex Stevens brace for the hosts, while the visitors scored their goals through a Dylan Griffiths double and Thomas Price.

Maesycwmmer managed to level it up thanks to Reiss Lamorte and that’s how it remained. Both have one point.

Finally in the division, Newbridge Town travelled to Ebbw Vale to face Rassau AFC. Two goals from Kristian Sheppard and Joshua Protheroe were enough to secure the points for the visitors. 2-1.
