Subsidence has been discovered at Sue Noake Leisure Centre in Ystrad Mynach.
Caerphilly County Borough Council has applied for planning permission to carry out urgent demolition works at a small part of the site.
According to plans, the subsidence is affecting an area of the leisure centre’s changing rooms, which will have to be partially demolished as a result.
Several cracks have appeared in the internal and external walls, and the ceiling, in the corner of the building containing one of the female changing rooms.
Demolition works will affect the changing room and the adjacent shower area, and the corner of the building will then be replaced by grass, with new walls and windows put up.
A second female changing room area, in the opposite corner of the building, will not be affected by the works.
The application is currently out for consultation, and can be viewed on the Caerphilly County Borough Council website under reference 24/0461/LA.
