Voters are hitting the polls in Aberbargoed and Bargoed

Polls have opened in the Aberbargoed and Bargoed council by-election.

Voters will be electing a new councillor to represent the area on Caerphilly County Borough Council.

The by-election follows the death of Labour ward councillor Dianne Price, who passed away in April having represented the area for 20 years.

The candidates standing in the county borough council by-election are:

  • Christine Bissex-Foster (Welsh Labour)
  • Joshua McCarthy (Plaid Cymru)
  • Mark Thomas (Green Party)

Voters will also be voting for two candidates to fill the current vacancies on Bargoed Town Council, which covers Aberbargoed, Bargoed, and Gilfach

The candidates standing in the town council by-election are:

  • Christine Bissex-Foster (Welsh Labour)
  • Paul Davies (Independent)
  • Gill Jones ( Plaid Cymru)
  • Joshua McCarthy (Plaid Cymru)
  • Michael Roberts (Welsh Labour)

Polls opened at 7am on Thursday August 15, and will remain open until 10pm.
