A father and daughter have praised their “wonderful community” for the support shown to them following the disappearance of their two dogs.

Wattsville residents Tony Edwards, 83, and his daughter Emily, 23, have not seen their beloved terriers, Rusty and Bailey, for nearly two weeks – and believe they have been stolen.

Mr Edwards explained how it was out of character for the dogs, aged two-and-a-half and three-and-a-half respectively, to venture away from their home on Troed y Rhiw farm.

Bailey went missing on Friday August 9, while Rusty disappeared the following day, Mr Edwards told Caerphilly Observer.

“Everyone has been first class in helping look for the dogs,” he said. “We’ve had the Ynysddu rugby girls all out knocking doors with pictures. The support has been wonderful locally.”

Mr Edwards confirmed the family pets are both microchipped, but after contacting local vets, they have still not been able to locate them.

He also claimed there was nothing police could do, due to the fact he didn’t physically see the dogs being taken.

“We’ve scoured all the trails, someone is obviously holding on to them. We’re heartbroken.

“It’s as if they’ve vanished into thin air,” Mr Edwards said.

“We’ve had someone flying a drone trying to find them, and we’ve had tremendous support from the community, even people from Crosskeys and Risca have come to support us.

“The local chapel have been very supportive too, praying every day.”

The disappearances come at a particular tough time for the family. Just five weeks ago, their farm sheepdog was put to sleep.

“It’s hit us for six,” admitted Mr Edwards.
