It was a difficult weekend across the borough, as almost every Caerphilly side in the South East Wales Cricket League lost.

Starting in division two, it was a weekend to forget for both clubs, as Newbridge played host to the Newport Fugitives.

Batting first, Newbridge only managed a total of 161 for the visitors to chase, which they met comfortably, winning by six wickets.

Elsewhere, Blackwood Town were up against a tough Cardiff side, who batted first and set a whopping total of 319 runs.

Bottom placed Blackwood couldn’t get near that figure, with the visitors eventually winning by 194 runs.

In division three, only Machen were in action, at home to a good Pontypridd side.

Machen batted first and set a pretty low score of 139, all out in just 27 overs. Pontypridd met the total with time to spare but only three wickets. Machen sit sixth after that one.

Down one division and the bad luck continued as Pontymister and Crosskeys faced Chepstow on the road.

The hosts batted first and set a decent total of 196, but some good bowling meant Pontymister fell 20 runs short before losing all their wickets. Pontymister sit fifth.

For the first time there was a winning Caerphilly side over the weekend as Abercarn travelled to Bay Dragons.

The visitors batted first and set a half decent total of 251 for the Dragons to chase. They did their best to breathe fire into the fixture, but fell 46 runs short. That was a much needed win for Abercarn who are up into eighth.

Finally, Cefn Fforest and Maesycwmmer were on the road up against Friends Union.

Another disappointing result, the visitors mustered-up just 83 runs. The hosts went on to win by eight wickets.
