More than 1,000 children attend council’s ‘Play in the Park’ summer events

More than 1,000 children attended a series of outdoor play events held across the borough during the summer holidays.

Caerphilly County Borough Council’s Play in the Park summer programme got underway at Senghenydd Welfare Park on August 1, and concluded at Blackwood Showfield on August 27.

Over the summer, eight events were planned at different locations across the borough, with seven going ahead. One event was called off due to poor weather.

The sessions provided children and families with the opportunity to take part in low-cost or no-cost outdoor activities on green spaces, with a free packed lunch provided for the children.

They were organised by the council’s Early Years and Childcare Service, alongside Caerphilly Play Service.

Alongside the Play in the Park sessions, Caerphilly Play also offered support to local communities by providing £250 grants to individuals and organisations who wished to host their own events in celebration of National Play Day. This initiative allowed various unique events to take place across the borough.
 
Councillor Chris Morgan, cabinet member for leisure, said: “This summer’s Play in the Park programme has been a fantastic success, bringing together families from across the borough to celebrate the joy of play.

“The turnout at Morgan Jones Park on National Play Day (August 7) was particularly impressive, and we’re thrilled that so many children had the opportunity to participate in these free, fun-filled events.”
