With most Caerphilly sides in action, it was a jam-packed weekend of football which brought goals and drama across the borough.
Starting in the second tier of Welsh football, Cymru South side Trethomas Bluebirds were the only Caerphilly outfit to play under the Friday night lights, looking for a win against third-placed Llantwit Major.
After falling behind early to a Tomos Tweedy goal, the Bluebirds quickly responded through a David Vincent equaliser.
That’s how the score remained, with the hosts still sitting top of the table in their debut season at this level.
There were a host of Ardal South East matches the following day, as Treowen Stars looked to extend their lead at the top in a crunch match at home to Abertillery Bluebirds.
After taking an early lead through Christopher Hartland, the hosts were soon pegged-back through a Ben Taylor Jnr equaliser.
Hartland grabbed his second to re-establish the Stars’ lead, which they held on to and now sit three points clear with a game in hand.
Abercarn were also in action at home up against Brecon Corries, and took an early lead thanks to defender Callum Mitchell.
Two goals from Craig Evans however meant the hosts fell short and now sit in seventh place.
The final side involved were Risca United, with the Cuckoos looking to build on an impressive 4-1 win over the Corries a few weeks ago.
They were in good form once again when they met Blaenavon Blues at the Centre for Sporting Excellence. Two Callum Hutton goals were enough to secure all three points.
Moving down to the Gwent Premier League, Aberbargoed Buds were in action up against table-topping Tredegar.
Goals from Ross Fowler, Nathan Rich, Ryan Morgans, and Zak Jones meant a comfortable 4-1 win in the end for the Buds, and the gap at the top narrowed.
Elsewhere, Rhymney FC hosted Graig Villa Dino looking to string something together after a mediocre start to the season down in 13th.
After going 2-0 down inside 15 minutes, it looked to be a tough afternoon for Rhymney. However, a Ioan Hill goal made it 2-1 before a very late Declan Beddoe equaliser meant the points were shared.
Pontymister were another side struggling for form, and faced an Albion Rovers side on the road.
It was an afternoon to forget for the visitors, who despite taking a 1-0 lead through Howell Jones, eventually lost 4-1.
One division below and there was an all-Caerphilly clash between Cefn Fforest and Wattsville, with both sides needing points early in the season.
It was hosts Cefn Fforest who took a 2-0 lead thanks to Kieran Vaughan and Jason Brewer, but Wattsville fought back through Rhys John and Adam Brill. 2-2 at full-time.
Trinant were the other side to feature, albeit from a division below. They lost 3-1 at home to Brynmawr United.
Moving on to the South Wales Premier League, Cwrt Rawlin picked-up a nice 1-0 win over league rivals Treorchy thanks to a James Harvey strike. They move above the visitors into sixth.
Aber Valley were involved in a great game at home to Cwmaman, with neither side having played many games this season due to weather and postponements.
Two early goals to the hosts through Nathan Radzimierski and Scott Armitage were soon cancelled out and it was 2-2 at the break.
Aber Valley then went 3-2 behind before a stoppage time penalty was dispatched by Radzimierski to save a point.
Elsewhere, the Nelson Cavaliers travelled to Penrhiwfer and claimed a comfortable 3-1 win. Goals from Matthew Greenaway, Daniel Taylor, and Liam Dellanna made sure of all three points.
In the North Gwent Football League, Fleur De Lys FC had one to remember as they thumped Garnlydan 11-0. Goals all over in this one, with Kane Giffard picking-up four and Harvey Hampshire grabbing a hat-trick.
There was also cup action involving Caerphilly sides; Argoed Reform Club safely secured their spot in round two of the Intermediate Cup with a 10-0 thrashing over Tranch FC; hat-tricks from Jordan Price and Jak Sillett to name a few.
Newbridge Town are also into round two as they made lightwork of Caldicot Castle, winning 7-1 with goals from Liam Hickman, Beau Dugmore, Ryan Lewis, Nicholas Deacon, and Ethan Phillips.
Two sides featured in the Newport and District Football League, with Risca Town and Bedwas both picking-up wins.
Risca claimed a 4-0 victory over Graig Villa Dino Reserves thanks to goals form Levin Gibson, Ben Bevan, Rhys Lewis, and Ben Morgan.
Meanwhile, the newly formed Bedwas FC had Owain Gulliford to thank in their 1-0 win over Rogerstone Reserves.
Down to the TERV leagues and Llanbradach were on the wrong end of a 5-4 thriller against Aber Valley’s reserves.
Three goals from Johua Gale were not enough to grab even a point for the hosts.
Better news for AFC Bargoed however, who claimed a 2-1 win over Graig FC thanks to Jordan Thomas and captain Ieuan Evans.
Gilfach were the other side to play, but lost out 3-1 to Ynysybwl at home however.
