Good weather meant a host of games were played across the borough

On a weekend full of football, there was lots to shout about for Caerphilly sides, with several all-borough clashes across the pyramid.

Starting in the second tier of Welsh football, Cymru South side Trethomas Bluebirds suffered only their second league defeat of the season away to Carmarthen Town in a 2-0 loss.

It was also the first time this season Mark Dunford’s Bluebirds failed to score in a league match. They slip from first to third after that one.

Several Caerphilly sides featured in round two of the Amateur Trophy on Saturday October 5, including a derby match between Treowen Stars and Newbridge Town.

The high-flying Stars made lightwork of Newbridge, with the table-topping Ardal South East side running-out 10-0 winners on the day.

Goals came from all over, with Christopher Hartland grabbing a hat-trick, whilst Christopher Colvin and Callum Chivers both picked-up a brace.

Fellow Ardal South East side Abercarn United were involved in a tough match on the road to Abertillery Bluebirds, which they managed to win at the death.

After falling behind 1-0 early on, Abercarn responded before half-time through Drew Davies before needing a Jack Bainton penalty to make it 2-2. A last minute winner from Joel Witcombe however meant victory for the visitors, who are into round three.

Moving to the Gwent Premier League, Aberbargoed Buds remain second after a 2-0 win over Maerdy. Goals from Ross Fowler and Rhys Richardson means they keep the pressure on Marshfield at the top.

Elsewhere, Rhymney were in action on the road to Pentwynmawr Athletic, looking to build on a draw last time out.

Not to be though, they suffered a 2-0 defeat and sit 12th of 16.

There was better news for Machen however, who thumped Llanhilleth Athletic 7-0. Sean Roberts grabbed a hat-trick for the visitors, whilst Daniel Lewis bagged a brace.

AFC Pontymister played a close match away to Ponthir, where they narrowly suffered a 3-2 defeat.

Warren Derraven gave the visitors an early lead but were quickly pegged back by Daniel James. Howell Jones made it 2-1 to Pontymister before James scored again to level things.

It took until the 77th minute, but eventually the hosts scored the winner through Thomas Warren. Pontymister sit in 11th.

Down one division, and Cefn Fforest enjoyed their Saturday with a 4-2 win away to Coed Eva Athletic.

Despite going a goal down, the visitors responded well through Ewan Walkley, Kieran Vaughan, and Callum Price to come out on top.

It was a day to forget for Wattsville however, who were thrashed 8-0 by New Inn.

Trinant were the other side to play. They too had a bad day at the office and lost 5-0 to Crickhowell.

In the South Wales Alliance League, Cwrt Rawlin claimed a 4-2 win over Penrhiwfer. Goals from Jack Harvey, Harry Short, and Rohan Hughes made sure of the three points.

Nelson Cavaliers were involved in a six-goal thriller with Tongwynlais, with both sides having to settle for a point in the end.

After going 1-0 up through Macauley Davies, the Cavaliers found themselves 3-1 down with just minutes left in the tie.

Two stoppage time goals from Richard Veale and Ben Lintern however saved a draw.

It was a job well done from Caerphilly Athletic, who in just their fourth league game of the season secured a 5-0 win over Pencoed Athletic.

John Harding claimed a brace, whilst Dafydd Pearce, Maximilian Franke, and Arron Hill scored the rest.

In the North Gwent Football League, Fleur De Lys continued their good form with a 5-0 win over Newbridge Town Reserves.

Argoed Reform Club celebrated a 4-0 win over Twyn y Ffald Blues. Two goals from Macauley Price and others from Jordan Price and Macauley Betts was more than enough to secure the points.

In the Newport and District Football League, Risca Town played-out a 1-1 draw against Croesyceiliog.

After going a goal behind and being reduced to ten men, Risca found a way through Levin Gibson to snatch a point.

Bedwas were the other side to play, and took all three points with a 1-0 win over Llanyrafon. Owain Gulliford with the only goal of the game.

In the Taff Ely and Rhymney Valley (TERV) league, Llanbradach faced local rivals Caerphilly Athletic reserves in Division One, but had to settle for a point in a 3-3 game.

Two late goals from Emanuel Diniz and Lewis Dower meant Llanbradach had something to walk away with. That’s the first point for both sides this season.

There was an eight-goal thriller between the Masons Arms and Gelligaer in another all-borough clash, with the visitors claiming a 5-3 win.

A back and forth game, Gelligaer were always the side slightly ahead, a brace from Dewi Price and goals from Lewis Rowlands and Jake Coles were enough to claim all three points.

Bargoed were in action in the TERV Premier Division, and ran-out comfortable 5-0 victors over Ynysybwl.

Two goals from Struan Houston, as well as contributions from Ethan Greenaway, Jordan Thomas, and Gregory Frankenburg, meant a good win.
