The Welsh Government has paid out £157.8m to farm businesses across Wales

More than £1.4 million has been paid out to farm businesses across Caerphilly County Borough.

In total, 146 businesses received money through the Welsh Government’s Basic Payment Scheme.

Across Wales, £157.8m was paid out to more than 15,500 farm businesses.

Deputy First Minister Huw Irranca-Davies, who is the cabinet secretary for rural affairs, said he hopes the funding “gives farming businesses and families across Wales reassurance and stability for the year ahead”.

Caerphilly’s Labour Senedd Member, Hefin David, welcomed the funding and said: “It is fundamental that farmers and their families feel heard and supported, as we work to achieve a sustainable future of agriculture for farmers and our next generation.”

He continued: “I’ve seen first-hand the importance and the value of the work of farming businesses in Caerphilly.

“Welsh farmers contribute significantly to our economy in Wales and are in a unique position to contribute towards the fight against climate emergencies; so, it is very important they see support to continue this vital work.

“I hope that the payments bring some reassurances for the local businesses, while the Welsh Government continue to work towards the Sustainable Farming Scheme, through the Agriculture (Wales) Bill.”
