Christmas celebrations begin and Cheesy Bingo. What’s on this weekend and beyond

Friday November 15

🎄Christmas kicks-off with the lights switch-on in Caerphilly town at 6pm at the Twyn Community Centre. Crafty Legs’ market will be there with plenty of stalls around the cenotaph area from 1pm until 7pm and this Friday also marks the start of Caerphilly On Ice at the Owain Glyndwr Playing Fields on Crescent Road at 4pm.

🥳 It’s like no game of bingo you’ve ever played before. The Cheesy Bingo Party brings you music, madness, sing-a-longs, ridiculous prizes, a few surprises, and the craziest game of bingo you’ve ever played. At Newbridge Memo at 6pm, over 18s, tickets cost £18 and available from the Memo website.

🎸 She Died in Coventry and Noon Wolf will be playing at live music venue the Fork and Tune at Cwmcarn Hotel from 7.30pm. Free entry.

Saturday November 16

🎅 Bargoed is hosting an ‘Elf Trail’ until December 7. Can you find all the elves hiding in the shops? Pick up your free activity form and map from: Bargoed Library; Bargoed Post Office; and Morrisons.

🎁 It’s also Ystrad Mynach’s turn to get in the Christmas spirit with its lights switch-on and Winter Fair. This year’s fair is set to bring a Christmas sparkle throughout the town centre from 9am with Gelligaer Community Council hosting a Santa’s Grotto. The Christmas lights switch-on will happen at 5pm.

💛 Bargoed Craft Fair and Market, run by Craft Legs, returns to the town’s Lowry Plaza. Get your Halloween and Christmas crafts, gifts, and treats from 10am to 4pm.

🏮 The Caerphilly River of Light is taking place on November 30, but before then children of all ages can make their own lanterns at free workshops being held at the Twyn Community Centre on Saturday and Sunday from 10am to 5pm.

🎭 The Glass Slippers – The real story…of a girl who is brave, strong, clever, and determined to prove herself. Tickets cost £9.50 for this wonderful hour-long performance from Tutti Frutti Productions at 4pm at Blackwood Miners’ Institute. There is a British Sign Language performance at 1pm. Tickets available from the BMI website.

🎵 Join BBC Radio Wales A-Lister and award-winning singer Kaysha Louvain At Newbridge Memo as she performs classics from the last seven decades including songs that have inspired her writing and love for music. Entry from 7.30pm, tickets cost £5 plus booking fee online.

Sunday November 17

♟️ A games and collectables market is being held at Ffos Caerfilli between 10am and 4pm.

Monday November 18

🎤 Vocalist entertainer Lynsey Pugh will be performing at Caerphilly Social Club following bingo which starts at 8pm.

Tuesday November 19

🏛 Blackwood Town Council presents its annual Mayor’s concert at Blackwood Miners Institute, with performances from: Mynyddislwyn Male Voice Choir; Mynyddislwyn Ladies Choir; Tredegar Orpheus Choir; Pengam Primary School; and Fleur de Lis Primary School.

All proceeds from the £8.50 tickets, excluding the £1 booking fee, will go to charity. For more information visit the BMI website.

Thursday November 21

📖 A new book club is launching at Consurio Lounge in Caerphilly from 6pm.

Books to choose from include: The Housemaid by Freida McFadden; Weyward by Emilia Hart; Anxious People by Fredrik Backman; None of This is True by Lisa Jewell.

🎭 When a department store Santa is murdered, private detective Louie Knight has five days to solve the case, or the town’s children won’t be getting any presents in O Little Town of Aberystwyth at Blackwood Miners’ Institute at 7.30pm.

Following the success of Aberystwyth Mon Amour in 2016, Lighthouse Theatre returns with a stage premiere of another Malcolm Pryce Welsh Noir novel. Tickets cost £13-£15 and are available to book online.
