Bedwas Warm Place, ran out of Bethel Baptist church, is celebrating two years of providing a “welcoming and homely environment” to the community.
The warm hub-style scheme was launched in November 2022 amidst the cost-of-living crisis, with those at the church wanting to do their bit to help out.
Now, three days a week, the building on Church Street provides tea and biscuits, games and puzzles, as well as advice – all free of charge.
Looking to increase their relationship within the community, the church has teamed-up with the local Co-Op store to offer more at the Warm Place.
Abigail Wendt was in Wales on an internship from a church in Oklahoma and volunteered at the hub. She said: “It has been a pure joy to get to be part of Warm Place. Being from America and coming here, I have enjoyed getting to experience the sweet community that Warm Place has brought.”
Warm Place is open every Monday between 10am and 1pm, and every Wednesday and Friday between 11am and 2pm.
They’re also open on most bank holidays. For more details, you can visit the church’s Facebook page.
