A £350,000 project to upgrade gas pipes in Caerphilly has been paused until the new year.

The upgrades, which started in October, have seen work carried out on Pontygwindy Road, Virginia View, and Rhos Street, starting by the junction near Asda and working towards the town centre.

Rolling traffic lights have been in place during this time.

Wales and West Utilities, which is behind the works, has confirmed work will resume on January 6 following the pre-planned Christmas pause.

Work is expected to be completed by the end of April.

Wales and West Utilities’ Andrew Coleman, who is managing the upgrade work, said: “While most of the gas network is underground and out of sight, it plays a central role in the daily lives of people across the wider Caerphilly area.

“Whether it’s heating your home, making the family dinner or having a hot bath, we understand how important it is for your gas supply to be safe and reliable and there when you need it.”

He continued: “This work is essential to keep the gas flowing to local homes and businesses today, and to make sure the gas network is ready to transport hydrogen and biomethane, so we can all play our part in a green future.”
