Gerwyn Price will be looking to put a disappointing 2024 behind him

Gerwyn Price’s bid to become a two-time world darts champion will begin on Monday night, when he takes on Ireland’s Keane Barry at the Alexandra Palace.

2021 world champ Price, from Markham, enters this year’s competition in the second round, where he faces the 22-year-old ranked 52nd in the world.

Barry goes into the tie having beaten Belgium’s Kim Huybrechts 3-1 in the first round.

Former world number one Price currently sits tenth in the PDC Order of Merit following a disappointing 2024 by his high standards, but will be hoping to prove his talent in London this winter.

The competition began on December 15, with the winner set to be crowned on January 3.

Meanwhile, 27-year-old Rhys Griffin, from Llanbradach – ranked 122nd on the Order of Merit – will be entering the competition in the first round, where he takes on Czech Republic’s Karel Sedlacek, who is ranked 68th in the world. That match will be played on Saturday December 21.
