Gerwyn Price is into the next round at the World Darts Championship after victory over 22-year-old Keane Barry.
Price, from Markham, defeated his Irish opponent 3-0 in their second round encounter at the Alexandra Palace on Monday December 16.
Price, 39, conceded just two legs in the process, with Barry missing 22 of his 24 darts at double on the night.
Following the win, the 2021 world champion insisted he has a point to prove after what has been a disappointing 2024 by his standards.
“I know how well I can play. I just want to prove to myself that I’ve still got it,” claimed Price, who will play either Joe Cullen, Wessel Nijman or Cameron Carolissen after the Christmas break.
“I have given myself a boost of confidence with the way I’ve played in exhibitions over the last few weeks, but this is where I want to perform, on the biggest stages in the biggest events.
“I put myself under a lot of pressure tonight because I wanted to go home and enjoy Christmas with a win, and this is where the tournament really starts for me.”
Elsewhere in the competition, 27-year-old Rhys Griffin, – ranked 122nd on the Order of Merit – will be entering the competition in the first round on Saturday December 21.
Griffin, from Llanbradach, will face Czech Republic’s Karel Sedlacek, who is ranked 68th in the world.
