‘Flameblaster’ visits Caerphilly in six-part BBC series

BAFTA Cymru winner and fire-chef Chris ‘Flamebaster’ Roberts has visited Caerphilly as part of his culinary tour of Wales.

The six-part BBC Wales series, called ‘Chris Cooks Cymru’, sees the Welshman travel across the country, tasting what each region has to offer.

The second episode, due to be released on Friday January 10 at 7pm, sees the chef stop in Caerphilly, where he visits Ffos Caerffili in the town centre to try Bao Selecta and Doughnutters.

Chris also meets chef Leyli Homayoonfar, whose restaurant, Bab Haus, is also based at the market, and tastes their “legendary” Middle Eastern and Mexican flavours.

Keen to taste some Caerphilly cheese, Chris heads to a local shop before cooking a giant Welsh rarebit on top of Caerphilly Mountain.

In the rest of the episode, he takes viewers with him to visit Alexandre Hancox, owner of Hancox’s Pies, to taste some of his award-winning grub. He also connects with John and Celia Thomas on Penrhiw Farm to source some Welsh mutton.

He ends his visit in style by teaming up with chef Leyli at Ffos Caerffili to cook up a mouthwatering Persian-Welsh fusion dish for the hungry masses.
