Caerphilly Council has paid out £150

A Caerphilly woman who complained about her rubbish not being collected has been awarded £150.

The woman, who has been identified only as Mrs X, lodged a complaint with the Public Services Ombudsman after failing to get satisfaction from Caerphilly County Borough Council.

She said the council had repeatedly failed to collect her waste and recycling material, and the Ombudsman, Michelle Morris, found that the council had not given Mrs X accurate information.

This, said the Ombudsman, had caused frustration and inconvenience but it was agreed to settle the issue without a full investigation.

The council agreed to apologise to Mrs X within one month for the missed collections and inaccurate information, and to pay her £150 for the inconvenience caused.

Refuse collection staff have been told that Mrs X’s bins should be collected according to the information provided on the authority’s website.

A council spokesperson said: “We do not comment on individual cases or investigations, but we note the recommendation of the Ombudsman and we will take on board the findings.”

Last week, council leader Sean Morgan apologised for disruption to bin collections over Christmas and vowed “matters are in hand to ensure this doesn’t happen again”.

Cllr Morgan accepted collections over the festive period “fell short of the usual reliable service” and said the “below-standard” performance had been acknowledged.
