Trethomas Bluebirds are preparing for their toughest challenge yet, as they head west to face Cymru South title rivals Llanelli Town.

The pair are locked on 46 points at the top of the table, with Llanelli just edging-out the Bluebirds on goal difference.

Ahead of the potential title clash on Friday January 31, Trethomas Bluebirds manager Mark Dunford spoke to Caerphilly Observer. He said: “We’re all excited. As a newly promoted side, it’s one you look at on your fixture list and circle.

“I’d say it’s too soon to call it a title clash with so many points still to play for, but both teams carry a lot of momentum coming into it, so from that point of view it’s of course a huge game.”

Dunford is correct when referring to the form of both sides, with Llanelli coming into this having not lost a game since early October.

The Bluebirds are on an impressive run themselves, having lost just one game in their last 11 league matches, and are unbeaten in their last six.

Asked about the last time the pair met, a 4-1 win for Llanelli in Ystrad Mynach back in September, Dunford said: “We were very under par that day all over the pitch and in our approach.

“Us staff and the boys are still frustrated by the way we performed, and tomorrow’s a good chance to put that right. We’ve got a plan and we’re looking to execute.”

The hosts have only built on their already impressive squad since that win over the Bluebirds, most notably with the signing of the league’s top scorer Liam Eason, who joins from Pontypridd United.

Trethomas were without their top scorer Gareth Tedstone in a 1-1 draw against Ammanford last week; he returns for this crucial clash.

“It’s pretty mad that we’re in a position, as a newly promoted side, where dropped points are so frustrating, but there’s still so much to play for with nine games remaining,” Dunford added.

Llanelli Town v Trethomas Bluebirds is set to kick-off at 7.30pm at Stebonheath Park.
