While the Six Nations took a break over the weekend, club rugby sides were in action across Caerphilly County Borough as they approach the business end of the season.

In the WRU Premiership, Cross Keys climb to fourth after a 47-21 victory away to Newcastle Emlyn on Saturday February 15.

They go ahead of Bargoed, who drop to fifth following a disappointing 32-3 home defeat to second-placed Merthyr.

Elsewhere in the division, Newbridge move up to eighth after beating Narberth 28-24 at home.

Down in the National Championship East, third-place Penallta sealed a 31-24 win at home to Aberdare to keep up the pressure on the sides above them.

One of those sides is second-place Bedwas, whose visit to Glamorgan Wanderers was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

Meanwhile, 11th-placed Ynysddu fell to a 31-7 home defeat to Talywain.

Over in Division 1 East, Nelson move up to second – one point behind league leaders Abertillery – after beating Bedlinog 19-13 away from home.

Senghenydd were also on the move, climbing up to sixth despite a 26-19 home loss to Monmouth.

Down in Division 2 East, Blackwood have a six-point lead at the top of the tree following their 35-20 win over Pill Harriers.

Abercarn meanwhile are up to eighth thanks to a losing bonus-point in their 12-10 defeat at Croesyceiliog.

However, winless Risca remain rooted to the bottom of the table, having suffered a heavy 62-8 loss at Usk over the weekend.

But it was a completely different story in Division 2 East Central, where runaway league leaders Caerphilly made it 13 wins from 13 in the league this season. The Cheesemen recorded a 26-14 win over Ynysybwl at Virginia Park.

Rhymney find themselves in a similar position in Division 3 East. They beat Nantyglo 37-5 to strengthen their grip at the top of the table, and are now 13 points clear.

However, the all-Caerphilly County Borough clash between Machen and Fleur de Lys was postponed, as was winless Oakdale‘s meeting with New Panteg. Abertysswg Falcons‘ trip to Chepstow was also off.

But all three Caerphilly sides were in action in Division 4 East. Bedwellty are up into third spot after a resounding 55-14 win over Forgeside – while Crumlin remain fifth after recording a 27-11 win at home to Crickhowell.

There was less success for Pontllanfraith however, who stay seventh after a 20-5 home loss to Llanhilleth.

Meanwhile, Blackwood Stars were on the rise in Division 5 East, beating Magor 23-9 away to move up to second.

They overtake Deri, who fell to just their second defeat in the league this season after losing 13-10 at home to table-toppers Tredegar Ironsides.

Hafodyrynys are one place behind them in fourth, climbing the table after a narrow 23-21 win at home to Abersychan Alexanders.

They overtake Hollybush, who move down to fifth having had a bye week.

In League Six East A, New Tredegar stormed to a 64-5 victory at home to Cwmcarn United, who remain just one place off bottom.

Trinant‘s visit to Girling was postponed, meaning they stay fourth with 21 points from six games.

Postponements also hit Division 6 East Central, where Bargoed Athletic‘s trip to St Peters Athletic was off, as was Penallta Athletic‘s visit to Rumney Athletic.
