As we move into the final stages of the season, sides across Caerphilly County Borough are battling to keep their dreams alive.
Kicking things off on Friday night, Trethomas Bluebirds returned to winning ways with a 1-0 win over Gwent rivals Cwmbran Celtic in Ystrad Mynach.
A Gareth Tedstone goal in the first-half was all that separated the two sides, though the hosts could have won by a few more.
The Bluebirds have just four games left in the Cymru South, and sit two points off Llanelli Town in first.
One tier below and Treowen Stars suffered a rare defeat in the Ardal South East on Saturday at the hands of Caldicot Town.
The league leaders came into the tie unbeaten in their last ten matches, but fell 3-2 to Caldicot on the road. The Stars still remain six points clear at the top, but the pressure is building.
Better news for fellow borough side Risca United, who picked-up three points at home against Tredegar Town with a 1-0 win. Callum Hutton with the goal.
A disappointing 1-0 loss at home for Abercarn United to Abertillery Bluebirds means they slip into the relegation zone.
Just Cefn Fforest in action down in the Gwent Premier League, but it was an afternoon to forget for them as they fell 3-0 to Clydach Wasps. Cefn Fforest now sit 13th of 17.
Rhymney’s poor form continued in the First Division following a 4-1 loss at home to Mardy. They’re now three from bottom with the sides below them not part of the league anymore.
Bad news in the Second Division too as Trinant suffered a 5-0 defeat against Cwmcarn Athletic. They too are in real danger of going down sitting tenth of 12.
There would have been a few nerves for Caerphilly Athletic in the South Wales Premier League when they went 1-0 down to Cwmaman, but goals from Iwan John, Jordan Thomas, and Gareth Hole meant they ran-out comfortable 4-2 winners and continue to push for top spot.
Aber Valley’s six game win streak came to an end at the hands of Ely Rangers. They now sit seventh but have a lot of games in hand.
There was a last minute winner for Cwrt Rawlin against Splott in the East Division, John Harding with the first before Splott scored a late equaliser.
It took an even later Rohan Huges goal to snatch all three points for the hosts, who move into fourth.
Elsewhere in the division and Nelson Cavaliers were held to a 0-0 draw.
There was some Amateur Cup action over the weekend as Aberbargoed Buds hosted Pontymister, but it was a day to forget for the visitors who were hammered 6-1 thanks to goals from Ryan Morgans, Ross Fowler, Nathan Morgan, and Cian Trollope.
Argoed Reform Club were also in cup action, but lost 2-0 at home to PILCS.
Another all-Caerphilly clash in the North Gwent Premier Division saw Newbridge Town strengthen their grip at the top with a 3-1 victory over Fleur De Lys.
Lewis Roberts, Cai Gumm, and Daniel Liu with the goals for the travelling side.
A good day for Twyn y Ffald Blues as they beat Waunlwyd 2-0 through Joseph Brewer and Kyron Jones goals to move comfortably clear of the relegation zone.
Another disappointing result for Blackwood Town however who lost 5-0 at home to Ashvale and remain on just three points this season.
Risca Town moved to within three points of first in the Newport and District League after they beat Riverside Rovers Reserves 2-1 thanks to goals from Kaylem Allen and Daniel Gunter.
Meanwhile Bedwas suffered a 6-2 defeat against The Eagles in the division below.
Cascade were in action in the TERV Premier, but lost 4-3 to Graig FC and sit fifth of nine.
Down in Division One, Gelligaer were involved in a back and forth contest with Caerphilly Athletic Reserves, but came out on the wrong end of a 5-3 score line.
Finally on Sunday afternoon, second tier side Cascade Ladies celebrated another last minute winner, this time in a 2-1 victory away to Llanelli Town Ladies.
Annaliese Lewis scored the first off the bench, and with the game heading for a draw, it took a 97th minute Erin Parry winner to steal all three points for Cascade, who are fourth but just six points off top.
