Office space in Newport city centre could be converted into four new apartments.

Applicant Neil Williams has applied for planning permission to transform the property at 8-10 Griffin Street, at the side of the city’s indoor market, into homes.

Documents show a space of around 500 square metres is up for renovation on the building’s ground floor.

Currently, the site contains a large open-plan workspace, as well as a lobby, boardroom, director’s office and “casual” area.

The proposals are to transform those spaces by dividing them into four one-bedroom apartments, which would each have a shower room and combined kitchen, dining and living room.

Each property would be accessible by a shared front entrance, on Griffin Street, leading to a shared hall.

The application is currently out for consultation, and can be viewed on the Newport City Council website under reference 25/0051.
