‘The pressure is off… but I still want to win’: Price set for Aberdeen after securing play-off spots

Gerwyn Price is guaranteed a Premier League play-off place

Premier League Darts is back for its 15th night of the season, with Aberdeen hosting the penultimate round of the league phase on Thursday May 15.

Markham’s Gerwyn Price has already booked his place in the play-offs, which will be held at London’s O2 Arena later this month.

How do the play-offs work?

Ranking points are awarded per night – with five to the winner, three to the runner-up and two to the semi-finalists – to form the league table from which the top four players will progress to the play-offs.

The play-offs will be played at The O2 in London on Thursday May 29, with two semi-finals and a final – with the winner crowned Premier League Darts champion.

The Iceman will go up against Stephen Bunting in the opening round in Aberdeen, with a semi-final clash against either Michael van Gerwen or Nathan Aspinall – both chasing the last remaining play-off spot – awaiting the winner.

Price, who was a Premier League runner-up in 2023, will make his second play-off appearance this year, following a strong campaign that saw him earn wins in Dublin, Nottingham and Liverpool.

“The pressure is off a bit now, but I still want to win,” insisted Price, who could be set to experiment with a new set-up as he continues his preparation for The O2.

“I might be using a new set of darts [in Aberdeen] and next week, but we’ll see how I feel.

“I’m not feeling the grip quite right with my own darts, but I’ve got nothing to lose so it could be a good opportunity to use a new set of darts on the biggest of stages.

“I believe if I play my A-game, then there’s no way I will lose. Every time I go on stage I expect to bring my best game out, but it doesn’t always happen.”

Bunting, meanwhile, defeated Price in the Berlin final last month in what was his only nightly win so far this season. However, he is now playing for pride after his hopes of a top four finish were ended last week.
