Caerphilly played their final game of the season on Wednesday night

With promotion to the Ardal South East already confirmed, Caerphilly Athletic finished the season with a narrow 3-2 loss against Port Talbot Town.

There wasn’t much on the line for either side who met at the Centre for Sporting Excellence on Wednesday May 14, with visitors Port Talbot safe in mid table.

It was the visiting side who started quickest, Connor Morgan scoring the opener after 21 minutes before Port Talbot quickly doubled their lead through Aidan Chappell-Smith.

It was a competitive match from start to finish

Caerphilly’s Iwan John grabbed one back before half-time, and soon after secured his brace to bring the tie level at 2-2.

Lewis Boxall made it 3-2 to Port Talbot after 65 minutes and that’s how the game finished.

Caerphilly end the season as runners-up behind Cardiff Aiport and are poised to join the third tier of Welsh football under manager Ian Butterworth.

Caerphilly will play in the third tier for the first time in their history
