Councillors in Caerphilly have approved planning permission changes to a development in Risca.

The “mixed use” development at a former brickworks, on Dan Y Graig Road, includes a car sales business and a gym.

Case officer Joe Simmons told members of the planning committee the new proposals from applicant James Norvill included requests to extend the opening hours for some of the activities there.

The council’s environmental health department had “several concerns” about the proposed extension of the site’s gym and storage areas to 24-hour use, Mr Simmons said.

But officers had compromised on a “small extension”, finding a “balance between what the applicant originally wanted” and their own suggestions, he added.

The site’s gym will now be permitted to open from 6am to 11pm on weekdays, and from 8am to 10pm on weekends and bank holidays.

The storage area may open from 7am to 11pm on weekdays, and from 8am to 6pm on weekends and bank holidays.
