The festival was held across two days over the weekend

Caerphilly Castle Ladies and Girls FC have celebrated their biggest ever summer football festival, which saw more than 1,200 players take part across the weekend.

The festival, which was held at Virginia Park in Caerphilly, welcomed more than 120 girls’ and women’s teams, who played across Saturday June 21 and Sunday June 22.

On Saturday, younger ‘non-competitive’ teams “lit up the pitch” according to organiser Bethan Bushen, who added how “amazing” it was to see so many girls enjoying the game.

Sunday saw competitive action take place, with an “incredibly high” standard of football played in the 26th year of the festival.

With Wales Women set to debut in their first major tournament at Euro 2025 next week, Bushen explained how the quality of play was “fantastic” to see as the game continues to grow.

The club went on to thank all those who helped sponsor the event, including the main sponsor Castle Dairies, as well as Guide Dogs Cymru, which received a portion of every team’s entry fee, with the total raised to be announced soon.

More information about the club, and to join, can be found on social media.
