With bad weather playing a part on Saturday July 5, only a few borough sides managed to play full matches across the South East Wales Cricket League.

Starting in Division Two and Newbridge were in action at home to Newport Fugitives. Looking for their fourth win of the season, the hosts had a relatively simple job of chasing down Newport’s 108 total, eventually winning by eight wickets.

Newbridge are up to seventh of ten after that victory.

There was no match for Blackwood Town in Division Three, but there was good news for Machen in the same league, who travelled to Llandaff on Saturday afternoon.

Batting first, the visitors scored 133 runs in a reduced overs match, and ended up holding on for an 11-run victory to move into sixth.

Not such good news for Crumlin however, who did manage to play all 45 overs away to Chepstow.

With the hosts batting first and notching up 239 runs, Crumlin could only get to within 48 before losing their wickets. They remain bottom.

There was no game in Division Four for Pontymister and Crosskeys, so we go to Division Seven where Abercarn travelled to Monmouth looking for a win.

It was not to be on the day though, as Monmouth chased Abercarn’s total of 217 with eight wickets to spare. Abercarn remain fifth.

Cefn Fforest and Maesycwmmer hosted Pencoed down in Division Ten, looking for only their third win of the season.

The game was never played however, with Cefn Fforest conceding the match. They remain one from bottom.
