Sports clubs can now book the new 3G pitch

A second new dual-use 3G sports pitch has opened in Caerphilly County Borough this month, thanks to a £1 million UK Government grant.

The pitch, at St Cenydd Comprehensive School in Caerphilly, has been described as a “key investment in high-quality, accessible sports provision”, by the council.

Councillor Chris Morgan, cabinet member for leisure, said: “This new dual-use facility represents a significant investment in local sport and physical activity.

“It will provide a safe, modern and accessible environment for school pupils, sports clubs and the wider community to enjoy all year round.

“The project reflects our ongoing commitment to supporting healthier, more active lifestyles through the sport and active recreation strategy.”

The pitch will be used by pupils during school hours, and the wider public in the evenings and on weekends.

It follows the official opening of the new 3G pitch at Risca Comprehensive School.

Councillor Carol Andrews, cabinet member for education and communities, said: “The new 3G pitch is a fantastic example of place shaping in action. By investing in a shared site, we’re maximising value for both learners and the local community.

“Projects like this show our continued commitment to providing sustainable and inclusive spaces where people can thrive.”

Pitch bookings have already been allocated in line with the council’s established sports pitch allocation criteria.

For current availability and future booking enquiries, contact St Cenydd Leisure Centre on lcstcen@caerphilly.gov.uk or 02920 881448.
