This year’s Machen Agricultural Show was a “successful day,” organisers have said, despite some bad weather across Saturday July 5.

Kevin Stanworth, chairman of the show and community councillor for Draethen, Waterloo and Rudry, told Caerphilly Observer how there were some initial concerns because of a “damp start”, but added how things soon picked up.

He continued: “The weather cleared and we had a really successful day. People came, as they always do, to support us.

“The trade stands were spectacular and I think the vintage section might be one of the most popular across Wales. We had 50-plus tractors and the same number of classic cars.

“The children’s displays were as popular as ever, and the young farmers’ tug-of-war got everyone involved. The craft and horticulture tents were also very busy.”

Official attendance figures are yet to be released.
