Nelson will host a weekend of wallball to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the sport’s first-ever European tournament in Wales.

The Welsh Wallball Euro1wall tournament begins on Saturday August 23 with both the men’s and women’s singles, while men’s doubles and women’s doubles will be played on Sunday August 24.

The competition will feature players from across Europe, including France and Ireland, and of course Wales – and will be played at Nelson’s wallball court, with games starting from 9am on both days.

The event is being organised by the Welsh Wallball Association. Formed in 2022, the group has grown to support more than 60 members of all ages, and has welcomed some of the world’s best players to the “bucket list venue” in Nelson – which is the only outdoor three-wall wallball court in the UK.

Since its establishment, members of the Welsh Wallball Association have travelled the world competing in the sport, including to places like Belgium, the Netherlands, and Spain – while welcoming players from as far away as the United States and New Zealand to Nelson.

Wallball, also known as one-wall handball, is a sport that involves two people hitting a small rubber ball against a wall with their hands.
