A developer has proposed converting a house in Newport’s Corporation Road into an eight-bed HMO.

Applicant Matthew Layton, of Layton Property Ltd, has applied to the city council for change-of-use planning permission for 46 Corporation Road.

HMOs are typically properties for single, unrelated adults who have their own private bedrooms but share other communal areas, such as kitchens or living rooms.

In this case, the plans show the works would involve converting a ground-floor living room into two bedrooms.

Could new study change rules around ‘sensitive’ HMOs in city?

On the first floor, a room at the front of the property would be divided into two new bedrooms, and another bedroom would remain on the second floor.

Each of the proposed new bedrooms would be en suite, with several new bathrooms fitted throughout the property.

The application is out for public consultation until Friday September 5, and can be viewed on the Newport City Council website under reference 25/0611.
