A community hub in Blackwood has been awarded £15,000 to expand its popular gardening and food scheme.
Libanus Lifestyle has received a Sustainable Steps grant from the National Lottery to support its year-long project on the grounds of the former Libanus Chapel.
The funding will allow the group to grow more fruit and vegetables, which will be used in its weekly Welcome Space sessions where local people are invited to enjoy home-cooked meals and unlimited tea and coffee free of charge.
Run by a small team of volunteers, Libanus Lifestyle has transformed the chapel – built in 1829 – into a thriving centre offering classes, events and support for the community. In recent years, the building’s outdoor space has been developed into a vibrant garden, with plans for a kitchen garden and poly tunnel to further boost food production.
The latest award builds on a string of successful projects, including the creation of a loft meeting area with help from the Shared Prosperity Fund, and closer work with nearby Libanus Primary School on environmental and outdoor learning.

Karen James, Director of Libanus Lifestyle, said the grant would make a real difference: “This support means we can produce even more fresh food, strengthen our Welcome Space offer, and continue creating a warm, inclusive place for everyone in the community.”
Cllr Andrew Farina-Childs, of Blackwood, welcomed the award and said: “It’s fantastic news that Libanus Lifestyle have been awarded a Lottery grant.
“They work extremely hard and have become an integral part of the community. Well done.”
