Have your say on improvements to borough’s play areas

Playgrounds across Caerphilly County Borough could be improved to reflect the needs of the children who use them.

The council has launched a review of its play areas and has asked residents to take part in a survey to share their thoughts on potential improvements.

It said it wants to make playgrounds “welcoming, inclusive, and accessible for all children and young people”.

Available online, the survey covers play areas at Bargoed Park, Blackwood Showfield, Morgan Jones Park, Parc Cwm Darran, Rhymney Park, Waunfawr Park, and Ystrad Mynach Park.

Participants will be asked to suggest which new equipment or features they believe would make parks “more fun and welcoming for everyone”.

This could include new play areas for different age groups, the inclusion of wheelchair-accessible or sensory equipment, support for people with visual impairments, and picnic tables and seating for wheelchair users.

The council also wants to know if people currently have any difficulties accessing its parks.

“By taking part in this consultation, you can help us understand what works well, what could be improved, and what matters most to you and your family,” the council said.

“Your feedback will help shape the future of local playgrounds and ensure they meet the needs of everyone in our community.”

Improvements will be funded by an All Wales Play Opportunities Grant, designed to “improve the quality and accessibility of play spaces and playgrounds so that everyone can enjoy them, whatever their needs”.

The survey is available online and closes on Friday October 17.
