Four young martial artists from Caerphilly have returned home with an impressive haul of medals after representing Wales at the WKU World Championships in Germany.
The event, held in Trier in October, brought together competitors from around the world to take part in kickboxing and karate disciplines including light contact, points, kick light and kumite.
All four athletes — Emir Isik, Lawson Moyle, Logan O’Clements and Reuben West — train at the WCKA Caerphilly Club, based at Trecenydd Community Centre, under coach Steve Bevan.
Between them, the group earned a total of 12 medals: Emir Isik, five medals — gold in Points and Kumite, silver in Light Contact and Kumite, and bronze in Kick Light; Lawson Moyle, three gold medals — Points, Light Contact and Kick Light; Logan O’Clements, silver and bronze in Kumite; and Reuben West, two bronze medals in Kumite.
In Mr Bevan’s absence due to illness, Reuben West also assisted and mentored younger members of the Welsh team during the competition.
A total of 23 competitors represented Wales across various clubs within the WCKA association.
The WKU — the World Kickboxing and Karate Union — brings together both disciplines at its annual world championships, featuring fighters from across the globe in events ranging from kickboxing and karate to forms, weapons and musical divisions.
