New play equipment is being installed at several parks across Caerphilly County Borough as part of an improvements programme.

Over the coming weeks, work is being carried out at Waunfawr Park in Crosskeys, Bargoed Park, and Cwm Darran Park, as well as at Caerphilly’s Morgan Jones Park, Ystrad Mynach Park, and Blackwood Showfield.

The parks will remain open while work takes place, but some individual pieces of playground equipment will be temporarily out of use.

Some items have been removed for safety reasons ready for new equipment to be installed, while safety fencing is being put up around affected areas while works are completed.

At Ystrad Mynach Park, the lighthouse structure has been removed after “reaching the end of its serviceable lifespan and no longer being suitable for repair”. The council confirmed a new structure will be installed in its place.

The aim of the project is to “enhance the quality, accessibility and inclusivity of local play facilities for children and families”, according to Caerphilly County Borough Council.

It is being funded through the Welsh Government’s All Wales Play Opportunities Grant 2025/26.

Council deputy leader Carol Andrews said: “High-quality, inclusive play spaces are vital for children’s development, wellbeing and social connection.

“This programme of improvements across our parks will ensure that more children, including those with additional needs, can enjoy safe, engaging and accessible play opportunities within their local communities.

“We are committed to making our play areas welcoming and inclusive for all.”

Cllr Chris Morgan, cabinet member for leisure and green spaces, said: “Our parks and green spaces play an important role in supporting healthy, active communities.

“Investing in modern, durable and inclusive equipment across a number of sites ensures that our local parks continue to be valued spaces for families for years to come.”
