Caerphilly Dragons’ Under-14 girls have completed a perfect treble-winning season after going unbeaten for a third consecutive league campaign.
The side lifted three trophies this year – the South Wales Women and Girls League Division One title and two South Wales cup competitions – after winning all 18 league matches and finishing with a goal difference of almost +100.
It marks a third straight league title for the team, who have not lost a league match in three seasons, drawing just three games during that time.
Founded in 2018, Caerphilly Dragons FC is now one of the largest all-girls football clubs in Wales, with more than 250 players competing across 18 teams – from U5s through to senior women.
The club was set up by a group of like-minded parents who wanted to create a safe and enjoyable environment for young girls to play football.
This season’s standout success came from the U14 side, who stormed to both cup finals alongside their unbeaten league campaign.
They defeated AFC Penrhiwceiber 7-0 in the SWWGL League Cup final before beating Sully Sports Pink 3-1 in the final of the Hugh James SWFA Girls’ Cup to complete the treble.
Ronald Hurn, head coach of the U14 side, said: “For the past three years, the girls have been fantastic. This year they have been utterly faultless.
“They are a huge credit to themselves. They have put in a massive effort and we have had some great results to show for it.”
Hurn said the togetherness within the squad had been key to their success.
“This is pretty much the same group since we inherited the team,” he said. “They come from a mix of schools, but they have all come together.
“They are intelligent and hungry to train and play week in, week out, regardless of the weather or time of year.
“All of our girls, the coaching staff and I are really looking forward to what next year brings.”
