The new 756 Fast Light Intercity and Regional Trains are being introduced in south Wales
Transport for Wales has warned of upcoming rail disruption

Train services along the entire Rhymney line will be completely suspended for three days as Transport for Wales carries out engineering work.

No trains will run between Rhymney and Cardiff from Saturday July 25 until the end of service on Monday July 27. Replacement buses will operate across the entire route to keep passengers moving.

The line closure forms part of a broader three-week period of disruption across the South Wales Metro network, running from Saturday July 25 to Saturday August 15, which will also affect services through Treherbert, Aberdare and Merthyr Tydfil.

On Saturday July 25 and Monday July 27, replacement buses starting in Rhymney will run to and from Cardiff Queen Street. Buses starting in Bargoed will run to and from Cardiff Central.

Transport for Wales (TfW) confirmed that passengers must hold a valid ticket before boarding replacement buses. Tap-in validators will be placed near bus stops for Pay As You Go cardholders.

To accommodate passengers who forget or are unable to tap out when using replacement buses, TfW is temporarily increasing the monthly account correction limit from six to 14 during August.

Dan Tipper, TfW’s chief infrastructure officer, said: “While we know the closures will cause disruption, the improvements we are making now will help create a more reliable railway. We encourage customers to plan ahead, check travel arrangements, and allow extra time for their journeys.”

Passengers are advised that journey times on replacement buses will be significantly longer than normal train schedules.
