More than 120 children from across 12 primary schools gathered in Ystrad Mynach for their very own World Cup football tournament.
Coinciding with the FIFA World Cup in North America, the event saw schools represent various countries at a sunny Centre for Sporting Excellence.
Abercarn’s Ysgol Cwm Gwyddon faced St Helen’s of Caerphilly in the first semi-final, while Ystrad Mynach Primary School faced Hendredenny Park in the second.
Cwm Gwyddon, representing Argentina, and Ystrad Mynach, representing Brazil, progressed to the final, with Ystrad Mynach crowned the overall winners.
Machen Primary School, representing Curaçao, also received a special award for the best representation of their country.
Cllr Chris Morgan, Caerphilly County Borough Council’s cabinet member for sport and leisure, said: “It was fantastic to see so many children enjoying football, representing their countries and getting into the World Cup spirit. Events like this help young people stay active, build confidence and enjoy sport with others.”
