New retail partnership formed to promote Blackwood

News | Richard Gurner | Published: 09:59, Friday June 24th, 2011.

Businesses in Blackwood have established a new retail partnership to promote the town centre.

The first meeting of the Blackwood Retail Partnership took place at the town’s Wilkinson store recently. The new group includes representatives from Boots, Wilkinson, Argos, Peacocks, New look and independent retailers such as Lamberts, Zaks, Cash Generators and The Plaza Café.

Blackwood Town Council, Storenet and Gwent Police are also key partners in the new group.

Andrew Highway, Caerphilly County Borough Council’s Town Centre Development manager, helped to establish the partnership.

Cllr Ron Davies, cabinet member for regeneration welcomed the move.

He said: “Blackwood is a strategic shopping destination offering a healthy mix of national retailers and smaller independent stores. It’s good to see that they are all working together to promote the town centre and I’m sure many positive developments will result from the new partnership working.”

The first issue the group will be focus on is data sharing with the police aimed at reducing retail theft in the town centre.

The chair of the new Blackwood Retail Partnership is Phil Lambert from Lamberts furniture store.
