This year’s Big Cheese has been hailed as the most successful ever after attracting more than 70,000 visitors.

Great weather on Saturday ensured the event attracted a record 40,000 visitors for the day.

On Friday the Cheese Race around the grounds of Caerphilly Castle and a spectacular firework display made sure the event got off to a great start.

The fun then continued throughout the rest of the weekend with host of entertainment and funfair rides.

Council leader Lindsay Whittle said: “The Big Cheese Festival has become one the most popular summer events in Wales and really helps put Caerphilly on the map.

“A lot of hard work goes into organising this major weekend festival and I would like to thank the event team and our sponsors for their continued support. It is very much appreciated.

“I’d also like to thank all the local people who turned out to make this year’s Big Cheese such as fantastic success.”
