UPDATE: Two arrests in connection with Oakdale road death
Police investigating the death of a 27-year-old man whose body was mysteriously found in a road has said he may have been a victim of a hit-and-run.
Ian Hamilton, who was also known as Parker, was found dead at the side of Penmaen Road, between Oakdale and Pontllanfraith in the early hours of Sunday July 17.
Gwent Police is making a fresh appeal for witnesses after issuing CCTV images of three cars officers wanted to trace.
Two of the vehicles have been identified and the drivers and passengers have been spoken to but one has yet to be identified.
Chief Superintendent Alun Thomas said: “We have been very pleased that members of the public have come forward and have helped with the investigation. We still need the driver and/or passenger of a 3 series BMW coupé, which was captured on CCTV at the relevant time period, to come forward as we believe they may have vital information to help us..
“We are keeping an open mind into how Mr Hamilton died but we cannot discount the possibility that he was a victim of a hit-and-run incident.
“We, and Mr Hamilton’s family, are anxious to find out what happened to him.”
Mr Hamilton, who is from Bristol, was visiting family in the area and is known to have been at a fancy dress party earlier in the evening.
He was seen walking from the bus station area in Blackwood and it is known he walked along Penmaen Road in the direction of Oakdale.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Gwent Police on 101.
