UPDATE: A470 re-opened after fatal crash at Abercynon

A traffic diversion via the A472 through to Ystrad Mynach and the A469 to Caerphilly is in place following an accident on the A470 on Tuesday morning.

The A470 southbound at Abercynon in Rhondda Cynon Taf has been closed causing major delays.

A car left the carriageway into the trees between the A4059 / A472 Abercynon and the A468 Caerphilly Road with A4054 Upper Boat.

Traffic can return to the A470 at Nantgarw from Caerphilly on the A468.

South Wales Police said the driver of the crashed car was killed. It is not known when the road will re-open.

Four fire crews from Caerphilly, Pontypridd and Ely attended the incident and firefighters worked quickly to bring the fire under control and extinguish it at 6.55am.
