Blackwood has seen a 6% increase in visitors to the town centre compared to this time last year.
Cllr Ron Davies, cabinet member for regeneration and planning, said: “I am so pleased to see that the people of Blackwood and the surrounding area are really supporting their town centre at a time when retailers are facing challenging economic times.
“A 6% increase in visitors to the town centre compared to this time last year really is a substantial rise – the blend of international names and fantastic independent retailers on offer make Blackwood town centre a great shopping experience, with something to suit all tastes.”
The town centre’s pedestrian flow is counted electronically using an electronic counting system situated outside Boots on Blackwood High Street.
The previous week in 2010 it registered 35,615 visitors while in the same week this year, there were 37,899 visitors – an increase of 6%.
Blackwood has seen lots of activity recently with the town’s packed events calendar. These included the recent Blackwood Carnival, Blackwood Summer Festival and Go Wild! In Pontllanfraith.
Last weekend also saw thousands of people flock to the Bedwellty Agricultural Show.
