International rugby referee Nigel Owens to give talk

News | Richard Gurner | Published: 16:00, Tuesday February 16th, 2010.

Rugby fans are in for a treat next month as international rugby union referee Nigel Owens is set to pay a visit to Newbridge Rugby Club as part of World Book Day.

The visit, on Thursday March 4, has been arranged by Caerphilly County Borough Council’s Library Service.

Mr Owens, who is one of the best Welsh international rugby union referees, has also turned his hand to writing and his autobiography ‘Half Time’ was published in November 2009.

The referee will be talking to the audience in Newbridge about his life and career to date, and there will also be a question and answer session during the second part of the evening.

Nigel Owens has been a Heineken Cup referee and was the only Welsh referee at the 2007 Rugby World Cup in France.

He is also the first openly gay man to referee at the highest level.

Admission to the talk will be by ticket only and the event will begin at 7pm on.

Tickets can be obtained free of charge from Newbridge library on 01495 243 575 or email libnewb@caerphilly.gov.uk
